With rising costs in today’s society, more and more people are employing the do-it-yourself method when it comes to purchasing floral decor for events including weddings.

The do-it-yourself method takes time but can save you a whole lot of money which can be better spent elsewhere. So the real question then is, how do we DIY our own floral decor?

Firstly, instead of going to your own event planner to get him or her to plan out the entire decor, go to Pinterest or instagram to search for some reference as to how you want the decor to be. If you have a theme to follow through, it will be easier when you are choosing the flower types and colours.

Then, reach out to a few florists found either through googling or through a friend to get a quote for the individual flower piece you would like as decorations. You can also ask for a quote by simply sending the entire image of floral decors over. However, take note that some flowers might not be available in Singapore and you can ask the florist for an alternative.

If you have a lot of time to spare and do not mind being hands-on, you can purchase the flowers wholesale and then arrange the flowers on your own. Do take note that you will need to then learn how to condition and cut the flowers. It takes someone with an eye for aesthetics to arrange the flowers in a way that is pleasing to the eyes. It may look easy but it certainly isn’t. You will most likely also need a special refrigerator to keep the flowers fresh at a low temperature.

This way, you will be sure to keep costs down and yet still have much control over the floral decor for the event you are looking forward to.

The DIY method takes a lot of time, effort and patience. If you feel that time is of essence to you and that you would rather spend the money to save the hassle, then go with an event planner - be it a funeral or wedding planner instead.
